I have an iPhone 5 and developed a similar situation. I flipped the cord and plugged it in the other way and it worked. I marked the cord so I would know which way to plug it in.

After the typical low battery alert, my iPhone 4S is not charging. I tried two different charging cables. I didn't drop the phone so there is no physical damage. Unless there is some magic I can perform, I assume the iPhone is now electronic waste. Ideas?
