Re: [apple-iphone] Silencing camera shutter sound without affecting any other sounds

Plug the ear buds jack into the phone. The wires hanging loose will remind you to pull the jack out so you wont miss any calls. You could cut the wires to the jack and have same effect, but I don't know how much of a reminder you need to remember to pull the jack out of the phone.

Does anyone have advice for silencing the "shutter-click" sound on the camera without silencing the entire phone, or affecting any other sounds?  I'm using an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.4, and I never want the "click" sound: it often disrupts the experience I'm trying to photograph.  I've read 3 solutions that the moderators will allow me to mention here, none of which are sufficient:

1) Turn the ringer off (silencing the phone).  I've missed calls because the alarm was silenced when I forgot to turn the ringer back on after taking some photos.

2) Turn the volume down (on the homescreen or while playing music or etc.).  Again, then I miss alarms, texts, the phone ringing, and any other sounds.

3) Cover the speaker with your thumb.  Seriously!  That was a real answer by multiple people on an official Apple support page.  Can you believe that?

I'm hoping someone has a different answer.  Thanks in advance if you do.
