I have one appleID specifically for iTunes that way all 5 family members with their iPhones can use all music and apps off the one appleID. Otherwise they would all have to pay for their own copies of everything! Then you set up a separate appleID for email, iMessages, iCloud, etc.
This is pretty standard in fact.

I need to have 2 separate APPLE IDs because one is business and one is personal, but I am reading that this is a horrible idea. if we are using one 1 ID to manage all iTunes, that is going to screw everything up for me. keeping business and personal separate.Claudia

I see no inherent problem with it.
