Re: [apple-iphone] iPhone Insurance

> Does anyone opt for this? I have a deep-seated fear of losing my iPhone, which will soon be the 5s. I took out insurance through AT&T the first year I had my 4s, but the coverage wasn't very good. So I'm thinking of something like Square Trade? Any thoughts?

Insurance from the carriers is way overpriced.

Square Trade is good, and I used to get it.
It covers breakage and water damage as well as malfunction. It does NOT cover loss/theft. Coverage is only available for iPhones bought in the past 30 days. A $50 deductible applies to all claims. 3 years is $129.

When Apple introduced Applecare+ for iPhones, I switched back to Apple from Square Trade. Not so much because the coverage was better or cheaper, but because taking it to Apple would be more convenient.

If you wan loss/theft coverage, you will need to rely on your homeowner's policy, but if you do nothing special, the costs probably will vanish into your deductible. You CAN get "scheduled" insurance for specific items (camera, jewelry, expensive electronics) that will pay a specified price, such as "comparable replacement cost".
