[apple-iphone] Mark 1,710 emails as read?

 

I had to wipe my 4S (iOS7) back to factory condition and when restoring I came up with 1,710 unread emails!  I can't mark them individually as read (they all are).  The Verizon rep suggested I delete that email account and then readd it.  He said that would wipe out those emails and I could start again.  I have my emails on my computer so I don't care if I lose them on the phone.  Would this work?  Is there a downside or a better way?

BTW I though there was a maximum of 200 emails the iPhone would remember.
