Re: [apple-iphone] Portable Charger Recommendations

As a fellow road warrior, I suggest the Griffin PowerJolt Dual. (Not the Dual Universal Micro, which has the amps to charge some, but not all Apple iDevices.) The Dual will charge up to at least a iPad 3. Delivers 10 watts (5 volts DC at 2.1 amps)

I also carry a CyberPower 2.1A power convertor for use with my MBP. It is designed for use with electronics and weighs only a few ounces, compared to the standard convertor. The output is supposedly cleaner and better for electronics. Has 1 USB outlets and 2 3-prong 110V outlets.

I keep the two devices in a small 6 x 6.5 inch zippered pouch, for use in a rental car, right next to my small kit bag for my other travel electronics needs. I find a small toilet kit with all the little compartments works well to hold my cables and power supplies. These needs seem to get smaller each year.

Being someone who travels a great deal for work, I usually have my "bag of tricks" stocked and ready to go.

However, I recently got caught without my iPhone 5 car charger. I had used my phone on the airplane, and went I got to the rental car I needed the iPhone for GPS. Fortunately I still had a decent battery left, and could plug in later at the hotel.

I have seen these "purse charger" things that look like a lipstick tube, with a USB port on one end. If your device has a low battery, and you do not have your regular charger, then you plug into this and it transfers power to your device.

Has anyone used one of these chargers before? Any words of warning or recommendation? I'm considering keeping one as a back-up, but I have read some reviews about damaged batteries, lack of full charge, etc.

Thank you!

Jim
