Tony,
No Apple's Mail.app is not solely IMAP. Not in OS X or iOS. My Comcast accounts are all POP.

On my computer I go to Yahoo webmail which is a login using email address and password. I use that at home. At work I use that means also, and on my iPad and iPhone, the apps use it as IMAP, in that everything I do on my Apple devices is mirrored on Yahoo webmail. And vice versa. For me, a good solutioon as I have all my email everywhere, on everything. This includes contacts, foldesr etc. Yahoo webmail has filter settings, as well as the usual webmail interface settings. These only exist on the computer which is where, as with all webmail, I am using Yahoos servers to conduict me email activities. The iOS mail app sort of does as well, but in a limited interface, which is quite ok

I've never even vaguely considered using Yahoo Mail. Does it provide IMAP and filtering?
If not, one possibility could be to forward Yahoo Mail to an iCloud mail account (because I *know* we can set up filtering there), and thence to the iDevice.

I mean synchronize as in the action of making the source and the destination identical, not as in running a specific operation on one's computer.
