Ellen, I had the same reaction to Google maps the first time I used it. It
DOES do navigation with turn by turn voice instructions but starting it is
not intuitive. There is an icon you have to press rather than Apple's more
obvious "start" button.. I used Google maps on a longer trip yesterday and
think it does a better job of alerting you to turns that are ahead.
However, on the trip back I used Apple Maps because it was just easier to
use.
