I *backup* to iCloud, but I sync to my computer. I don't want everything that I purchase to be on every device I own, so the iPhone and iPad syncs are set up very specifically, and very differently, on my computer.

Also, the cautiously paranoid among us recommend occasionally syncing with your computer even if your normal sync is with iCloud. In case their servers get sick, ow whatever.
