Re: [apple-iphone] Answering calls

I didn't know tapping the power button would do anything to a phone call when the iPhone is sleeping. What a neat feature. Thanks.

Re: [apple-iphone] Anyone using OverDrive with iOS5?

Have you tried iBook? I like it. I have the Kindle app also since some of the books I have aren't yet in iBook.

One thing about eBooks I don't like, is all the file formats. Everyone has reasons for why they've chosen the format they use and why other formats are not as good. Choice is a big deal to a lot of us. I'm just wondering why there can't be a universal format for eBooks that can be read by all or most of the eBook readers out there.

The first session deals with file formats. I hope to report at least some of what I learn to this list. As a two-year, not entirely satisfied, user of the iPhone Kindle app, l plan to pay close attention.

Re: [apple-iphone] Droid-like iPhone keyboard?

I use a an aluminum blue tooth keyboard made for the iPad 2 (http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Aluminum-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Exterior/dp/B005ISNC86/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1325363678&sr=8-5) I really wanted the ZaggMate keyboard but not for $99. The link goes to one that looks like the ZaggMate but generic. It works quite well for long emails and such. The iPad is a great piece of computer to have. I use it quite a bit. It's the perfect size for most things. I find it too big for texting unless I'm using a keyboard. I find I have my iPhone with me all the time and text from it mostly. I use my index finger and tape each letter. I've gotten pretty fast at texting that way. My brother still thumb texts on his iPhone. I tried that and the muscles in my thumbs started hurting pretty quickly. I'm sure that's because I'm not use to thumb typing.

Swype doesn't sound like an improvement over the iPhone keyboard if it makes more misspellings. It took me awhile to get the hang of tapping the onscreen keyboard back when I got my first iPhone (3GS.) Now it seems normal. But I must admit, when I'm writing more than a sentence or so I use the Apple bluetooth keyboard with my iPad. (Like now.)

Quite a bit of the time when I get messages from my friend, I have to figure out what he's trying to say because swype misspells a lot. I know the iPhone has spelling problems too but it doesn't seem as many misspellings as with Android. The guy has been using Android for quite sometime now, so I'd think he has the swype thing down.

Re: [apple-iphone] Anyone using OverDrive with iOS5?

So it lets you check what books are available in libraries? or does it tell you what places, like Kindle or iBook the books are available from?

Re: [apple-iphone] iOS 5

I haven't had any problems upgrading to iOS 5 on my iPhone 4. I was a beta tester for it, so couldn't wait to upgrade to the full version. As everyone already said, backup before you upgrade just in case you have problems. I doubt you'l have trouble upgrading. In fact, I think you'll like it better than what you're using now. The notifications are unobtrusive now. That's one of the best things about upgrading. No more having your apps stop when a message comes in.
