So besides the GPS running all the time you're using it, the cellular data is running all the time you are using it.

So it really is NOT free, if you want to use it. It's free only if you don't use it.

With the MotionX GPS apps (free or inexpensive) you can download and cache the maps before you leave on a trip. Also, their graphics and user interface are excellent.
