Well folks, the new iOS version (11.0.2) seems to have reconnected the File Explorer of Windows 10 to my iPhone 6 Plus. I can now explore the phone's Camera Roll from Windows.
Connectivity to iTunes is still poor - it will connect and sync once, then fails to open itunes on subsequent connections. I have to log off my Windows User account and log back in. Then itunes will be triggered on connection. I recall that itunes has never worked in multiple User accounts - if you've used it in one, that account must be logged-off before another user can connect and get itunes. Windows and itunes never have talked complete sense to each other in my experience
