I just tried this on my 6+ running 11.0.2
Tapping the "circle-x" and tapping the "Cancel" both do what they are supposed to do for me.
Do you have a case that interferes with doing stuff close to the edge of the screen?
Or a screen protector that is protecting your screen from your finger taps as well as from scratches?
Have you tried re-booting the iPhone?
