I get the tone when I use 'hey Siri' 

No tone when when using the home button

Thanks to all for your experience. Happy the sound is still on the iPad, and I'm not "updating"further until I must. Apple giveth and Apple (incomprehensibly) taketh away. We can go to apple.com/feedback and be heard.
