Changing from one version of iOS to higher, has always been a painful exercise.
My pages files have disappeared.
My contact names have vanished.
I iBooks PDF files have become bad.

In general, iOS 9 battery life has been pretty well shown to be better, on ALL devices, than the same devices running iOS 8.
Take some of the advice provided here and on the web for checking, and reducing, battery usage.
At this point, an iOS 8 roll-back is somewhere in the range of difficult to impossible.
I suggest that, for your next upgrade, wait a month or so before blindly leaping.
