This sort of situation to me is a good reason to have a permanent e-mail address like GMail, Yahoo, Hotmail. People change ISP's (moves, better deals, carrier is shut down or bought out) and jobs (work e-mail addresses no longer accessible). Having a permanent address is a bit of a safeguard from getting locked out of some things. Not failsafe (remember when Excite was a major player?) but maybe a better chance of long-term stability.
