If you had ever restored with iTunes, you would get a message 'Congratulations, your iPhone had been unlocked' if a locked iPhone has been unlocked.
Or
Try one of the (nano) SIM cards of your relatives / friends (of a different service provider). SIM cards are not locked, only phones are. So if it works on your iPhone, then it's unlocked.
Or
Go to a T mobile store and tell them you want to use your iPhone with T mobile and request them to test the iPhone if it's unlocked.
If they don't oblige, just buy a prepaid nano SIM card with minimum permissible amount of loading say $ 10 and test it on your iPhone. (SIM cards come free. They charge you only for loaded amount).
