I didn't download iTunes 12 for a couple days but haven't notice anything that makes me hate it. I agree with Jim that the sidebar appears to be more context sensitive. I was never a big sidebar user in the past so didn't feel like I was missing something.

I find I am adjusting to it well, and I was a dedicated sidebar guy.

It would have helped if they had provided some explanation.

Instead of trying to cram EVERYTHING you might want to access into a single sidebar, they have provided icons for each different area of interest (podcasts, music, videos, TV, Apps, …). 

Some of these don't really *need* a sidebar (e.g., Apps), and if you click on those, no sidebar appears.

Others (e.g., podcasts) DO need a sidebar, and if you click on them, the sidebar appears.
