My daughter got her 6+, and I got to play around a bit with it. It match's my wife's smartphone in size - she got another brand because she hates iPhones, but it is the largest screen available which is good for her eyesight. It appears Apple has matched it in size, a significant market niche.
We got her a case with metal sides - they are like half "I-beams" so there is no possibility of bending. We didn't try bending - I had visions of a huge bill at iFixit for a new display which I would guess would not bend! The darn case cost $80 but that was mainly for the "bling" factor which doesn't matter to me or her - but the strengthening does! Of course it negates the thin size and weight, but it is still thinner than an iPhone 5s it replaced.
Best thing of all - it is too big for my daughter's hands and pocket., so may inherit it for my bad eyes! Minus the bling case and plus a battery case, since I use the internal magnetometers and accelerometers a lot at my job. Apple actually pointed me in the direction of the right accelerometers for downhole drilling - it seems that the cousins of the ones they use will work to 400 degrees! Saved me a lot of research of accelerometers, although I doubt Apple had 400 degree operation in mind when they selected them.
