Hi Ellen - There is a dedicated app from which you can email the EKGs to your physician or print out. There is a hardware EKG machine - very small - that you hold in both hands. It can be fastened to the iPhone directly or to a case with the adhesive strip provided or, like me, just keep it separate and hold it near the iPhone. It transmits somehow through the microphone of the iPhone. But yes there is a machine. It is about 4" x 3" or so and about a quarter inch thick. It uses a replaceable coin battery that supposedly lasts for at least a thousand transmissions.

I lived with it for 35 years until I had an ablation procedure. It is a genetic defect, supposedly passed down to the descendants of William the Conqueror - supposedly the first person documented with the problem.I am interested what app they used to monitor the afib - is is just an app that uses the microphone, or does it require add-on hardware as the other posts suggest?
