I have recently had some issues w itunes. I am waiting to hear from their customer support. I don't know that itunes keeps very good records on purchases especially older ones and older email addresses. I had to change email addresses 3 times, and itunes won't merge them so so all purchases rely on the address and PW I used when I made a purchase.
Latest issue I paid for instruments for garageband for iPad and suddenly they were not there and I had to repay for them to get them!
What I do sometimes if I want to be sure to keep certain songs is I pull the songs off of itunes and keep a copy on my computer and back it up. I don't know how that works on a PC. I had an issue w sharing songs I purchased from itunes a few yrs ago that I shared w my husbands computer. When he went to listen to them recently he got an alert needing my password and email address that I originally signed up with itunes when it first started but that I no longer use w itunes and itunes doesn't seem to have record of my purchases from my original email address anymore!! However I had made a CD of those songs years ago and I was able to use the CD to import the songs into his itunes and that worked, (made easier bc we have internal cd SuperDrives in our older computers!)
Most songs on my phone that I cherish I keep a copy of on my computer outside of itunes and hopefully backed up on external backup drive. I don't know if backing them up on CD would still work- haven't tried it lately.
