Re: [apple-iphone] IOS 7.1 crashed my iPhone 4

The last 1Cloud backup was about 2 weeks old and all personal data was backed up onto the PC just before the update was started.

iTunes versions is 11.1.5.5 and was updated about an hour before the crash.

I am running Windows 7 on a Dell Vostro.  It has now been updated with the latest Windows patches.  That was done after the crash.  I have been in Baja for the last four months and the local internet was so slow it was impossible to do updates.

The reason I used the computer rather than the OTA was related to the Baja trip.  I had about 350 pictures on the phone that I wanted on my PC.  I connected the cable and allowed it to do the backup.  I then copied over the pictures to the PC and deleted them on the phone.  After that was completed, it notified me that there was an update available.  I read the section about the improved performance for the 4 so I tried to update.

The phone is now unusable.

Did you backup and copy all your stuff to your computer? Is is a Mac or PC, and what OS and iTunes versions are you running.

Is there are reason that you did not upgrade OTA, over the air? Make sure you plug it in to power when you do this, and remember that your computer may not provide power if sleeping or off.

You do meet the minimum requirement for iOS 7.1 with your iPhone 4.

I have not yet updated my iPhone 4S. You did notice that most of the improvements are for the 5 and higher. It does state a performance improvement for the 4, though.

I updated using a computer instead of over the air.  It took 2 hours to download the updated over a 1.5 meg connection so I let it run over night.  When I came back the iPhone showed the connecting to iTunes page and iTunes said it found an iPhone that needed to be restored.  I let it restore and it runs for 20 minutes or so and then crashes with an "unknown error 4005".

I have looked that up on the Apple site and they say to make sure you have the latest iTunes and your computer is up to date. They want you to try a new cable.   I have done that and it still crashes just the same.
They want you to try another computer which I will later today but it is currently doing updates.

Anyone got a good idea on how to fix this?  Anyone else seen this?
