The cassette adapters emulated the magnetic signal from a tape, but I can't imagine how you'd mimic a CD. 

Other options are an FM transmitter that attaches to the iPhone and is then picked up by the FM tuner in the car, or a simple cable that connects the iPhone's earphone output to the auxiliary input on the player (if it has one).
