I do the same sort of weeding when I find I am not using an app. By having them on my Mac, in case it is no longer available from my App Store purchases, I can always re-install it on the iPhone.
I probably have about 100. I could probably remove 30-40. I use about a dozen or so almost daily, and about 2 dozen each month. And a bunch are "just in case".
400 apps, sounds more like bragging rights.
