Anne,
I can't speak for the 5 but some of them have problems with wifi. The earphone jack is on the bottom. Some like this.
There is a extra row of tiles per screen.
They changed the charging cord. A adapter is available for ihome and other devices.
The cord and the fact I'm a cheapskate is why I got a 4s 16gb for $39 with AT&T. I've got several ihome units.
The 4s does some things noticeably faster. Has Siri.
Apple usually introduces a new phone in the fall and everyone "expects" them to this year but no reputable rumors yet. Plenty of unreputable rumors.
Probably the best advice is to wait and see what happens this fall unless your really itching for a new one.
I was happy with the 4, I didn't know any better but the home button started sticking when hot and the volume up didn't work any more.
This 4s sends outgoing emails faster and checks my icatcher app for my 55 podcasts with lightning speed compared to the 4.
I have a 3G,4,4s.
Even though I didn't want a 5, it's probably the way to go if its differences suit you.
There's going to be a lot of new stuff coming with iOS 7, some good features but it sounds like a bit of learning curve so if you don't like change you might want to stick with iOS 6. You have the choice now but not after it comes out.
I know others will disagree but that's my opinion.
I'll plug the podcast "tii" or today in iPhone. It's a hour or so but a mighty fine podcast about once a week.
