When same thing occurs again which you cannot see where the left pane is now located? Which also happened to me sometimes. Try to have a look on the right side of the itunes (top of dowloaded apps), there have 2 icons on it. one on the left with the phone icon is your device which is your iphone! Click on it and it will displays the left pane window where you could view also your iphone!
