I hate electrics!
I believe the 4S charges at .5 amps, and the iPad at 2.1 amps, my car charger is iPad2 compatible, which is 2.1 amps. Not sure about the 5.
My main concern is while the 5 will charge on my car charger, I need the adapter, which has a chip in it, and I have read some users with docs or similar, that the 5 wont work, presumably due to the chip in the Lightning cable.

As far as I know, the iPhone 4S needs 5mA while the iPad is 10mA.

Dang. I have a 2.1mA car charger, but wont fit my iPhone 5. Given that there is a chip in the Lightning cable, does this mean that if I bought an adapter, it may or may not work?

Rich, That is the way I have been charging mine in the car. The plug I am
using is a 2 port Griffin Powerjolt that I have had for a long time.
