[apple-iphone] Does it really take 6 hours to download iPhone iOS6?

 

For the past few weeks, the Settings icon on my iPhone 4S has attached to it a red circle with the number 1 in the circle. When I check on iTunes, I find that OS6 is available for download.

I started the download one night but iTunes told me download time was SIX HOURS. I stopped the download -- 15-20 minutes makes sense but SIX HOURS??

Is it really six hours?

Is it worth it? I use my 4S only for phone calls, text messages, send/receive an occasional photo, and several medic/EMT apps.

If I don't download OS6, how can I get the reminder off my Settings icon?
