I rec'd my iphone 5 Wed afternoon, set it up with no problems, itunes did a smooth transfer of all of my previous iphone info from my 4 to the new 5.
I hated to see my iphone 4 go away, That is a great phone and I had no problems with it at all, but just like many of us on this list, I was eligible for the upgrade and wanted the new 5.
I went to work with it on Thrusday, everything seems ok, no problems, Though I did notice that I missed some calls, and thought I was around the phone but guessed I just didnt hear it ring.
I was home all day Friday and began noticing very early in the day that I had missed several calls and this time I had my new iphone with me and realized it had never activated, never rang.
So I called my iphone from my land line and sure enough I got a busy signal. I called it again and it activated and rang the second time.
I let the iphone sit idle for a while then called it again from my land line, and got a busy signal. The phone was right next to me and it never activated.
I call the apple support, they tried calling me on the phone and it did the same thing to them, busy signal but would activate and ring on the second call.
They said its probably a carrier problem, call ATT

To make a 30 minute ATT conversation short. I eventually spoke to Tech support at ATT, here is what they had me do AND IT WORKED
Settings
General
Reset
press resent network settings.
turn the phone off, turn it on
worked just perfectly after that.
