I had the same annoying problem; changed the password n-times. Finally, discovered that for some apps, I downloaded the app with one password and on a subsequent update had the caps lock on and did the 3 times wrong password, got the window to reset password. Entered the same password AFTER discovering the caps lock. It said no good, password been used. So entered a new one and was able to update that app.
Then learned to look at the email address the login window was using. I have a me.com plus my main email address. One password was used for me.com and the other for the main email address. I have eWallet app which stores all my pass words; dozens of them. Very handy.
