Hi Everyone,
I want that thank everyone for their comments.
I went online and made my Apple appointment and went in. What a zoo...of
course, yesterday was MEA and the place was crowded. My closest Apple
store is at the Mall of America.
They listened to all that I had done, commented that they believed it was a
Sprint network problem, and then said that they would replace the phone if
I wanted. I said that would be great, since this one did not work
properly.
So far I have not had a data problem. They did say that they were sorry
that this happened since it is my first iPhone and not a very good
experience for me.

Hey, Pat!
An appointment with Apple should shed some light on the problem. You can
set up the appointment online, and if your Apple Store is like any I have
visited, the sooner you make it the better the time is.
Have you also talked to Sprint about changing out the SIM card? (Sprint
does use a SIM card correct?)
It really sounds more like a provider issue to me. I purchased a iPhone 4S
in July, just before leaving for a 3 month job in ND. I had issues last
week, and called ATT to report the problem. On their end, it showed the old
3GS for the settings. Funny, when I view the account it shows the 4S. At
least, that is what they were blaming the problems on.
As to previous phones, my first smart phone was horrible. If you placed
the Kyocera in a paper bag, it could not find signal, and thought it was a
PB&J sandwich. The Motorola StarTac I replaced with the Kyocera, could be put
in a bank vault and it would find a signal. The Kyocera had a Qualcomm CDMA
chip, and Qualcomm is the company that set the standard for CDMA. After
fighting it for a year, and working directly with one of Verizon's Engineers,
I gave up and got a Treo.
I'm not saying that you don't have a defective piece of hardware, but most
of the Verizon iPhone 5 people having problems are finding it is the SIM
chip they have in the phone.
