It wasn't a PITA with the iPods and the MacBooks. They call it 4th (or whatever) generation iPod. And my MacBook Pro is the 15" early 2011 model. No 1, 2, SSD, 3S, or any similar nomenclature. Although I agree that numbering would be easier for people. But apple is not actually naming the iPhones using numbers. Only the iPhone 4 has been named using its number in order of generation. So, if people are to refer to the upcoming iPhone using numbers, iPhone 6 would be more logical, not 5. But Apple will surprise everyone again.
