I find that most people, when they have to interrupt the playing of a song/track or a podcast, wish to return to the song/track or podcast when they are able.
They generally do NOT want to search through their list of songs/tracks or podcasts to once again find the one they had been in the middle of listening to.
I would therefore categorize this behavior as an intelligent choice, and definitely NOT a bug.
