Mere hours after launching its Gmail for iOS app, Google has yanked it
from the iTunes app store.

"The iOS app we launched today contained a bug with notifications,"
read a tweet on the Gmail Twitter feed. "We have pulled the app to fix
the problem. Sorry we messed up."

When launched, the Gmail app displayed an error that read: "no valid
'aps-environment' entitlement string found for application." This error
appeared to refer to push notifications, such as displaying the number
of unread messages on the app icon.

The rest of the app functioned as intended, but many early users
registered their disappointment. The app was not able to host email on
the user's device, and seemed little different from the interface you
get when visiting Gmail on the Safari browser.

We've reached out to Google to find out why this much-delayed app was
launched with buggy code and a lack of native email hosting. But in the
meantime, let us know your thoughts in the comments.
