Re: [apple-iphone] Re: Transferring Voice Memos

The memo files are in your iPhone.  When you check "include voice memos" they are transferred to your "songs" under their respective names.  It's quit simple. They also remain on both devices until deleted.

Yes, but that depends on where the memo files are to start with.

That is what I reckoned Otto, which is why I saved the files, but it doesn't work. They were dragged into the first "Voice Memos" section in the window that itunes first opens when a device is plugged in, and they were also dragged into the "Voice Memos" section of the specific device after you click on the device icon at the top. And they are still sitting there, with an error message on every sync that itunes cannot find them. I have presumably dragged them to the wrong place, as itunes is aware of them, to give an error message. This has been going on for weeks (from which you will guess that they are not vital, but I am peeved I cannot listen to them)

I don't recall if you can restore selected files such as voice memos to an iPhone, but you should at least be able to add the m4a files into iTunes as and then sync them to the new phone.

Thanks to Otto and Brent for responses

The 6 plus has been wiped completely and kept for spare if the 8 plus fails me. Th iphone 6 plus backup is in itunes (the 8 plus backup is separate and new). The sound files in question also exist on the PC as separate *.m4a files. (As I was setting up the new phone from scratch and not restoring the old backup, I was careful to keep quite a lot of individual files from apps etc and the Voice Memos are among them)

I didn't see the video. I can tell you that what I see most often include SeaIQ and AquaMaps. There are a ton. You can search for 'marine navigation apps review' and find magazine articles and blog entries. Anything more than a year old is out of date. *grin* GDPR has been a game changer and some apps have lost capabilities.
