I have a top of line 6 and will never (can ever!) buy another $1000 phone. I suppose I'll be purchasing lots of stamps in the future! But I'm getting old. Don't need to be so connected anymore. If Apple comes out with an inexpensive bare bone Senior Citizen celly, I'll reconsider ...

[apple-iphone] iTunes 12.7

 

Apple has done it again.

One of the realities of being really smart is that when you do make a mistake it is a doozy.

iTunes 12.7 drops app management to "focus solely on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks." What will we lose next? Will syncing calendars go the way of syncing notes? What about iOS updates?

Addressing bloat does not mean pulling features out. "Sorry dude, our cars weigh too much so we're taking a wheel off."

iTunes was about managing portable iDevices. Now it isn't. Can you manage apps on your phone? Sure. Will it take longer? Absolutely.

Just to add insult to injury two of my apps are stuck halfway through an update. I can't use them and I can't update them. Way to go Apple.

[apple-iphone] Mail Crashes

 

Mail program frequently closes or crashes.  I've restarted with Home and On/Off but that has not helped

Will not fetch mail and other programs like Facebook will just freeze temporarily.

Is my phone dying?

It's great that Apple includes a Podcast app. Most who use it will stick with it while the adventurers will want something more in a podcast app. I really liked the podcast app until iOS 11 Public Betas.  So I thought now was the time to try other podcasts apps and see what's out there.

Surely there's always been a podcast player in iOS? It used to be part of Music, and for me that worked much better than the later, separate app.

Over the years I've installed lots of apps because they "seemed like a good idea", only to try most of them once or twice and then forget about them. There are 2 I use regularly, though: SoundHound, which identifies music (I often hear music in films or TV programmes and want to know what it is), and Outdoors GPS, a mapping/hiking app that does all the stuff that Maps and Google Maps don't.
