Hold down the power and the volume down button. It will look like you are turning down the volume. Just keep holding until the apple appears on the screen

I'm glad that the damage seems limited, Sandy. :-)

You may verify that you correctly assume that "missing" implies "from the App Store".

It came to me just now, that I have read about a website containing older versions of iOS apps. I can't even remember if I stored the link, let alone where (I hope) I did.
And the vendor of that one app might be able and willing to help you.

1) If several apps suddenly don't work, there may well be a common cause. "No Internet connection" springs to my mind. (But beware of tunnel vision!)
The cause could be anything anywhere, from you accidentally entering Airplane mode to some trouble that your ISP is having.
You could check this possible cause by verifying the settings (starting with Airplane) on your phone, then check another provider: you are likely to have access to both cellular and wifi.
For checking my Internet access (and not some data that may be cached) I always visit the site of my national (Dutch) weather institute for the time stamp of their latest data.

2) Restarting a device is a remarkable cure for almost any malfunctioning. (But it can cause other trouble, this broadly speaking.)

3) Like others have already mentioned, the "slowing down" is irrelevant. (I figure that that warning shows with 32-bit apps, as iOS (like the hardware) has moved to 64-bit instructions. Some bridging would be required, hence the slowing down.)
