Re: [apple-iphone] AT&T and Verizon are changing how iPhones will be sold at your local Apple Store

You can also pay off the installment balance early and sell your phone for what I expect to be more than the trade-in allowance.

I do not know where he gets the $1200. Here in the US AT&T is basically letting you pay the full value over a period of months at no interest. I am on the Next 18 plan which means that I can trade up to the next iPhone model after 18 month and turn in my current one. If I pay out the full amount in 20 months then I own the phone and can do what I want with it. In addition they give a $15 or $25 credit against your data plan charge. I have a low GB data plan so I only get the $15 credit. However, if yo look at this as a discount against the cost of the phone I will have a $300 discount on the phone if I pay out the full 20 payments.

I will hold on to my 2 year contract as long as I can. This new way the cell phone company's are a no no ! This will cost us at least $1,200.00 for a new I phone. Why would they do this to us. I'm loosing control over all this! I feel a feeling of being ripped off over all this! I know these companies are not making much money but I will have to give up my phone service to survive! What will become of my beloved I phone 6 plus and my beloved Apple watches my apple watch sport and my 18 carrot gold watch for weekends. This is causing me to loose my life style and my way of living. What is going to happen to all of us?

My guess is that the poster was being facetious or doesn't understand how the installment plans work.

Re: [apple-iphone] iCloud back up question with Gmail

My wife has bumped into the 5GB iCloud backup max with her iPhone and iPad on the same account.  She does not want to buy extra storage.

I have 2 iPhones and 2 iPads backed up to iCloud, and use a total of 4.9 GB of storage space.
And I do use iCloud mail.

And because I thought I would be using it (but haven't yet), I splurged on additional storage space (20 GB total) – for $0.99/month.

You could look through Settings – iCloud – Storage – Manage Storage to see where the space is being used up.

She uses the built in mail app but she does not use the Apple mail services. She only uses Gmail.

That being the case is there any reason for her to back up her mail to iCloud. I am thinking that if something unfortunate happens to her phone or iPad all of her mail will still be available via Gmail.

I have no experience with Gmail. Be sure that anything you don't save locally is available from their storage, then you can remove mail from iCloud storage.

Re: [apple-iphone] iCloud back up question with Gmail

I have used GMail for years and have only used it as webmail. I've always been able to find old messages if I need them, but "just in case", I forward important ones to another account so they go to my computer as well.

So, no, I wouldn't waste limited space on backing up Gmail.

I had her clean out all the unnecessary stuff from both devices but her inbox is the major user of the storage space.
