Apple would like to think that ALL the music on your Ipod has been purchased via the Apple Store and Itunes . If that is the case all your Ipod music would in Itunes and your Iphone would have easy access to all your music . However, if some of your music was obtained from other sources ( ripped CDs, MP3s from friends, etc ) Itunes will prevent you from importing them from your Ipod to the Iphone via Itunes . To get around this you need a third party app . A few times over the years I used CopyTrans and it worked perfectly and easily . You have to buy an annual license , I think it cost about $30 and was well worth it .

I have lots of music on iPods, one being the very first model. Is there a way to download some music to the iPhone? Do I need a special app?
